Selecting an Information Destruction Contractor?
Your organisation, from the CEO down, must comply with the laws and regulations requiring that you protect certain information when it is discarded. An increasing amount of legislation actually requires organisations to SHRED or face very steep fines. As your customers and employees are concerned about identity theft and their own privacy, they expect YOU to take every precaution to protect it.
The need for strict compliance in this area is highly recommended by Shredall Managing Director Lloyd Williams. As former Section Chairman and on the Standards Committee and PR Committee of the BSIA Information Destruction Section, Mr Williams fully understands what is expected and required of a data processor in compliance with the Data Protection Act.
Shredall highly recommends that when selecting a Shredding contractor that they are a member of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) Information Destruction Section. As members, Shredall have made a valuable contribution in the instigation and writing of the BSIA Code of Practice, culminating in the British Standard for Shredding - BS 8470:2006.
Shredall also recommends that when selecting a Shredding contractor that you make sure that your selection includes an accredited contractor who is an ISO9001:2000 registered Company. Shredall has invested time, money and energy in implementing and improving systems that are fully audited by a UKAS approved body. In achieving this standard continuous improvements are made, improvements that are passed on to all Shredall customers and employees.
Shredall also recommends that Shredding contractors are members of the trade association NAID (National Association for Information Destruction), a U.S.A. based trade association. As long serving European members of NAID, Shredall is kept abreast of all major developments and innovations within the industry worldwide.
Casually discarding company information shows a complete disregard for employees and customers. With identity theft still rife in the U.K. and Europe it is paramount that businesses select the right contractors and do not neglect the security aspect of Confidential Waste Destruction and incorporate it with normal waste streams.
There are fundamental differences between trade/office waste and confidential waste. It used to be enough to tear a piece of paper into four for confidential destruction however the trade association code of practice now shows and recommends shred sizes for different classifications of data destruction. Your records need protection and Shredall is here to help.
Ever mindful of environmental impact all the confidential paper waste shredded by Shredall is recycled into toilet tissue and all Shredall staff are vetted to the standard set by the BS 7858:2004.
Tip:- If someone says they have accreditations ask them to prove it by seeing copies: you may be surprised!
