Shredall attend NAID 2011 Conference in Orlando

Shredall’s owners Lloyd and Nik Williams attended the annual NAID Conference in Orlando last month. NAID stands for National Association for Information Destruction, Inc. and is the international trade association for companies providing information destruction services. NAID promotes the information destruction industry and the standards and ethics of its member companies. Shredall are AAA Certified members and Lloyd is the first non USA elected member of the NAID Board where he is enjoying his second term of office.

Approximately 935 industry professional from the records management and secure destruction industry participated in the NAID Conference last month and there was a great turnout for all and frantic action on industry specific exhibit floor.

After attending many seminars throughout the conference, Lloyd Williams quoted “one of the main highlights in Florida was the launch of the vehicles that Shred on-site at SEAP approved, this will be done by a conventional pre-shred followed by a secondary shred to DIN Standard 3, which would meet with SEAP approval”. Lloyd continued “the downside to the new vehicles are reduced Shred size with slower processes – which means this could result in higher cost for shredding and could also affect recyclable paper values!”

The event sprung to life with a comprehensive and insightful perspective on marketing and communication for Shredding businesses by the most engaging speaker Ken Schmidt. One of the most in-demand business speakers and brand-building consultants in America, Ken Schmidt is the former director of communication for Harley-Davidson Motor Company, where his proficiency in brand-building, corporate positioning, financial communication, and dealer relations played a pivotal role in one of the most celebrated turnarounds in corporate history. He is now an independent consultant specializing in branding and non-traditional communication, he has shared his expertise with household-name organizations serving virtually every segment in the consumer, business-to-business, financial services, and healthcare arenas. With obvious passion, bluntly honest language, and humour, Ken Schmidt discussed how businesses of any size and scope can, like Harley-Davidson, strengthen their brands by leveraging basic drivers of human behaviour, e.g. - Create meaningful differentiation from competitors; maintain veteran customer relationships while innovatively pursuing new ones; improve sales through customer referrals; attract and retain employees; and revitalize corporate culture. His messages also apply very personally to individuals at all levels of business who wish to: Build their professional reputation; gain respect, pay increases and promotions; improve leadership skills; and work better with others.
The conference concluded with the enthralling Chief Fire-fighter Richard Picciotto giving an inspirational speech. He was an FDNY Battalion Commander in Manhattan on September 11, 2001. Following the terrorist attack, Picciotto rushed inside the World Trade Centre to rescue those inside, but soon found himself trapped in the smouldering rubble of the North Tower after its collapse. Buried for more than four hours, he emerged almost unscathed and was the highest-ranking fire-fighter to survive the collapse. Chief Richard Picciotto’s gripping, first-person account provided a fire-fighter’s view of the 9/11 World Trade Centre catastrophe and emergency response.

In between, there were over 12 hours of thought-provoking sessions one of which Lloyd moderated on E-waste shredding and recycling and another where he introduced the new NAID President Ray Barry. Other sessions included diversification, sales, operations, and other relevant topics.
Of course, reacquainting and sharing ideas with industry colleagues is one of the most attractive aspects of the annual event.  From the opening reception to the final networking lunch, old friendships were renewed and new friendships made.
