TREE PLANTING

Shredall is pleased to announce its involvement in tree planting schemes around the world, working with Carbon Projects Ltd to realise this initiative.

As a thank you to loyal customers Shredall will be planting trees this holiday season and in conjunction with this in 2009 a tree will be planted for all new customers joining Shredall.

The first project that Shredall is sponsoring is a woodland charity based in Devon. This charity was established in 1999 and uses locally sourced seeds which are grown in their own nurseries. Once the saplings are established the Charity works with landowners to plant woodlands for conservation. This helps to preserve habitats for endangered species and creates a new environment where animals can repopulate and thrive. The tree species includes Oak, Hawthorn and Holly which are perfectly suited to this region and climate.

The second project is with an overseas organisation, established in 1989, which aims to help communities around the world plant trees. This is done in a number of ways including, seed distribution, agroforestry training and empowering rural groups to restore native woodlands. Shredall is helping with a project in Brazil and have donated 400 trees to a project this Christmas. The planting of trees in this region helps to prevent soil erosion, and over the growth cycle of the trees they will absorb many tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere. This helps to reduce the greenhouse gas in the atmosphere which has been linked to global warming.

Sarah Parker, Director of Operations at Carbon Projects Ltd said “Both of these projects are extremely important and Shredall's commitment to the tree planting schemes will make a significant difference to their local environments as the trees grow to maturity”.

The planting of the saplings in the UK takes place in November and December and the Holly trees that are planted in 2008 should be looking very festive in a few years time.

Under the Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign communities, organizations, businesses and governments are being encouraged to plant trees and enter their tree planting pledges on the web site (click here). The aim is to plant at least one billion trees worldwide annually. The scheme unites the thousands of tree planting schemes around the world, some people planting just one tree while other organisations plant millions.

Shredall has registered its participation and has pledged to plant a tree for each new customer in 2009. The responsibility lies with Shredall to arrange for the tree planting and ongoing maintenance of those trees and The Plant for the Planet campaign encourages the planting of indigenous trees and trees that are appropriate to the local environment. With this in mind, Shredall has enlisted the help of Carbon Projects.

'The loss of natural forests around the world contributes more to global emissions each year than the transport sector...' So Please join Shredall to combat this threat and either join the campaign yourself by clicking here or use Shredall for the destruction of your confidential waste and we will plant a tree on your behalf.
