When Charlotte, our Marketing Manger came forward encouraging the team at Shredall & SDS to take part in something for charity, I was up for a challenge straight away.

A friend of mine did the London to Paris bike ride a few years ago, and as I enjoy cycling I thought I would sign up for this organised event. To be honest I thought a few more team members would be travelling the distance with me but they have chosen other events to do throughout the year instead.

My uncle Dan, (and work colleague) who did the London to Paris Bike Ride a few years ago, has amazingly decided to put himself though the intense training and incredible challenge again and together we will aim to raise £6,000 split between our 2 chosen charities in 2 months time!! The charities we are aiming to raise money for are close to both our hearts.

Biking approx 300 miles in 4 days with only 8 weeks training, loosing post wedding weight, with a knee which has had 4 operations already will be pushing my boundaries and fitness but what I am doing doesn’t come close to what Karen went through. I am fortunate to have a healthy life and really want to give something back to these great charities. The Karen Green Foundation is one of the charities we really want to raise as much money for as possible.

During a life which was tragically cut short, Karen was an inspiration to those who knew her and a legend throughout the hospital that treated her with her strength, bravery and attitude to beat Leukemia, a battle that was finally lost on July 4th 2011 after 4 ½ years. Karen worked at Shredall and SDS for approximately 8 years as our Accounts Manager. She was hard working, kind and so inspirational and courageous through this terrible illness. She was such a hard worker but unfortunately due to her illness getting progressively worse after time off she decided she was too weak to continue.

The other amazing charity we are raising money for is MS Trust. Our cousin and niece, 22 years ago was in the prime of her life, finishing her ‘A’ levels as a star student and looking forward to university and the rest of her life when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, within 3 years she was very seriously ill. With the intervention of medical experts, newly discovered wonder drugs and the love and care of her family, Zoe made a partial, but miraculous recovery from the very worst symptoms of her illness. She now lives her life despite her condition and like most MS sufferers she has good and bad days, she makes the most of the cards she has been dealt. Dan has said unlike myself he feels he is not young or fit and after a winter of inactivity and no cycling for some time he has two mountains to climb, one is to get in shape in 8 weeks and two is to complete the ride.

Please, please, please support myself and Dan on this massive challenge – London to Paris in 4 days will be a massive challenge for both of us and your support is what will keep us going.
