Where do old shredding trucks go to retire?

Where do old shredding trucks go to retire?

Village Ventures is a charity operating in Mali, Africa since 2000 and its aims and objectives are to teach self help - projects such as, small crop cultivation, brick making and sewing in extremely poor villages surrounding the town on Diema.

The charity also helps to put in place the infrastructure needed to allow the villagers to survive in a very unforgiving environment, by digging wells, protecting cattle and educating people on the need to protect and enhance their natural resources.

With the support from our local Rotary club, Confidential Waste Destruction Company, Shredall Ltd, have pledged to support getting our vehicle to Mali in Africa as a gift. The lorry donated by Shredall will help Village Ventures organiser, Pam Young collect cargo for the trip. The aim is to build an Auberge on one of the main cross roads in West Africa. An Auberge is a small hotel where guests visit and do work in lieu of part of their payment.

One of Shredall’s own drivers, Adrian Williams, volunteered to drive the lorry to the south of Spain, which left last week. Adrian met with Village Ventures organiser and colleagues and a replacement driver who will take the vehicle across the west of Africa, skirting the Sahara Desert before arriving at its new home in Mali.

Pam hopes to use the vehicle to create further funds for her ongoing projects in Mali. The lorry has taken many old bicycles and sewing machines, the bikes are used to get children from outlying villages to school many kilometres apart whilst the sewing machines are being used to train local people to sew. The Shredall lorry has also taken a small tractor and solar panels over to Africa to use as energy for the product.

Pam is also working on woman’s centres to allow women to be more productive in the labour force and to protect them from domestic abuse.

Lloyd William’s comments “Shredall SDS Group supports different charities every year. Village Ventures is a small charity. They have no government support, and no big aid budgets. They have nothing but big hearts and will power. We wanted to support them as it’s important to help people create a better life for themselves. Giving them our old lorry has already helped them get significant products over to Africa.”
