Cupids Charity Masked Ball

Cupids Charity Masked Ball

Written by Lloyd - Group Chairman

I am President of the Rotary Club of Mapperley and Arnold and since the young age of 30, I have been an avid member of the rotary club in my hometown of Nottingham.

On 11th Feb 2017 we are to host a fund raising Charity Masked Valentines Ball at Colwick Hall, Nottingham. The money being raised is in support of the Charity ‘Forever Stars’ - The charity that successfully established a Family bereavement suite at the Nottingham QMC and has now set its self a challenge to replicate this at the Nottingham City Hospital.

The Ball which is a joint venture between Rotary and Forever Stars is a great fit because when Forever Stars founder Richard visited Mapperley and Arnold Rotary Club to speak about his Charity Forever Stars early in 2016, probably 25 percent of the male audience could relate to the trauma that bereaving parents go through on the termination of a still birth of a child in our local hospitals. The Rotary Club then liked the idea of supporting this Charity because whilst Richard, his family and supporters have made this charity work, it is not carrying large overheads or house head offices and chief execs salary etc…

I have been working close with Rotary Fund raising chairman, Neil Stevenson, every penny of profit from this event and our recent Charity Golf Day goes directly to the charity. When volunteers give up their time and effort for Charity they always show a vested interest that the money collected is not wasted and goes where the donations are given. This is a charity close to all our hearts!”

The aim is to put on the biggest event that most people have never been too. The Masked Ball has the potential to sell out at 300 people but has further potential to be even larger with a venue like Colwick Hall who can gear up to 500 people if required. The venue has a good reputation for large events and catering. If we can capture the imagination of people to buy tickets, dress up and support the event, we can also attract sponsorship for the event.

Forever Stars was my chosen charity this year and I’m pleased to say I am finding the event ‘easy to sell’ because it captures predominately women’s attention who like the idea of dressing up in their refinery, whilst having the mystic of a mask!

Along with Forever Stars founder Richard’s contacts and Forever Stars supporters at the QMC, the City Hospital and Midwives past and present. Many have always wanted to go to one of these balls - all they need is posh frock, mask and a husband, partner, lover or friends and what a better time than Saturday 11th February 2017 which coincidentally is Valentines weekend.
