I graduated from Birmingham City Uni in 2007 with a degree in English and Drama, determined to follow my dream of working in the fast paced television industry.
Making the move to the ‘big smoke’, shortly after graduating, I landed my first job: a production runner at the BBC for the quiz show, Eggheads. After a few months of studio and office I was offered a job working on ITV’s The X Factor, where I stayed for three years.
My role began to expand and develop, bringing with it much more varied tasks and opportunities. Alongside looking after Simon, Cheryl and co, I was involved with the creative filming process and sourcing contributors as well as interviewing and developing VT’s. I also helped campaign, manage and promote the acts from the show such as JLS and Alexandra Burke – raising their profile throughout the live studio shows.
Although it may seem a glitzy, glamorous lifestyle for an outsider looking in, in reality the four hours sleep a night and lack of social life started to wear thin. After freelancing back and forth between ITV, BBC and Endemol for another year, London life eventually lost its buzz and I moved back to the Nottinghamshire countryside.
Freelancing in PR for 2 years in the Midlands across various industries, including a celebrity agency in Loughborough – led me to my now fiancé’s business, Shredall SDS Group – one of the UK’s largest independently owned Shredding and Document Storage companies.
Fast forward two years and what had started as a freelance role has grown into a full time role as Marketing and PR Manager for the company.
Shredall SDS Group's head office has grown substantially since I started in 2010, increasing in size from 13,000sqft to 60,000sqft. I would like to hope that I have helped create successes for the family as a business.
From lights, camera, action to shredding, storage and scanning….I am truly enjoying the family business lifestyle. The challenge and variety each day brings is unmatched to anything I have undertaken before and I feel honored to be working alongside my future father and sister in law, oh and my future husband too.
