Shredall’s secure shredding and recycling process

Shredall’s secure shredding and recycling process

Shredding paper is an important element in most organisations’ security policies and by doing this you’re helping the environment, keeping confidential data safe and complying with the GDPR.

Shredall’s data destruction services are fully compliant with the GDPR’s requirements and can provide your business with an effective solution for the safe disposal of sensitive personal information.

Here’s what to expect if you are new to the shredding and recycling process or if you are just intrigued to find out what happens to your paper once it leaves your workplace.

Collection from your workplace

There are many different options when it comes to collecting your paper waste, we can supply lockable office consoles or bins or sealable paper sacks depending on your requirements. Collections can be made as a one-off service or scheduled basis. If you would like our service ad-hoc we can shred any boxed or palletised material. For those large clear outs, we can offer Roll-on-Roll-off Skip and Container Hire.

Confidential Transportation

A tracked, locked vehicle, with our uniformed, DBS checked security vetted staff will arrive at your premises and collect the confidential material from the secure containers provided or from areas indicated.

Off-site or On-site Shredding

We can either shred your documents at your premises or take it away to shred at our secure facility. Many clients opt for the added reassurance of on-site shredding where you can witness your confidential documents being destroyed first hand. Other clients prefer the ease of scheduling regular waste collections at a time that suits them, while also having access to a full audit trail right up to the final invoice.

In both cases, a certificate of destruction and waste transfer note is issued once the paper waste is securely disposed of, confirming the safe destruction of your data in compliance with the Data Protection Act.

Shredding at our depot

All shredding material arrives at our secure facilities. Documents will be shredded by our state-of-the-art static shredding machine capable of shredding 320 tonnes per day. All shredded material is cross cut shredded to the current European Standard (EN15713).

The shredded material is removed from site, baled at our depot and sent to a UK mill for recycling. Allof the paper we shred is recycled, including cardboard. We are committed to making sure that none of the waste we recycle goes to landfill.

Paper Recycling Process

Once the paper arrives at a paper mill it gets graded into different qualities. White recycled paper is pulped in tanks, washing off all inks so the fibres can be reused. The fibres are screened to remove any debris and electromagnets pick up any metals like paperclips and staples. The fibres are cleaned and deinked several times in a flotation tank until they become white. Whitening agents are added before the pulp, which is now 99% water and 1% fibre, is pumped onto a paper machine.

The paper is then passed over a vibrating machine or through rollers to remove most of the water. The water is sent back to the beginning of the process and the remaining material is now half fibre and half water. The sheets are passed over heated rollers with a temperature of up to 130 degrees, which reduces the water content by 5%, making the paper whiter, smoother and more usable.

Finally, the paper is tested to make sure it reaches the correct standard and quality for strength, gloss and brightness. The rolls are divided into smaller reels or sheets and packed and stored ready to be sent to the printers. After it’s been printed, used and discarded, the process begins again.

Sorted office paper follows a similar process to printer paper. At the end of the process, it is blown to create huge reels of tissue. These are then put onto converters to produce toilet tissue and other tissue-related products.
