13 million people live below the poverty line in the UK. Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. Trussell Trust food banks provide a minimum of three days emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in the UK.
In 2013-14 food banks fed 913,138 people nationwide. Of those helped, 330,205 were children.
Shredall SDS Group came together as a team and helped our local food bank in Nottingham.
Rising food and fuel prices, static incomes, underemployment and changes to benefits are some of the reasons why increasing numbers are being referred to food banks for emergency food.
Desperate times...
‘We had to borrow a tin of soup from next door to stop our
18-month-old daughter from going to bed hungry.’
Ann-Marie, Salisbury
Food banks help prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems. A simple box of food makes a big difference, which is why Shredall SDS Group helped support such an important cause. This project was extremely well supported by everyone! There are a lot of less fortunate people in our local area and the importance of these donations is more than you can imagine.
Food banks do not offer a permanent solution, and the hope is always for people to be able to feed themselves, however food banks will assist families and individuals in most need.
A great team effort at such an important time of year.
